Migration from SAP to Odoo

SAP is requiring all ECC customers to migrate by the end of 2030: standard maintenance will end in December 2027, extended maintenance will be charged for from 2028 onwards, and all support will cease in December 2030.

Are you using SAP? You have good reasons for not wanting to migrate. Odoo is a more comprehensive solution at a better price. You can also expect a significant reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO), of up to 80% compared to your current level.

Why switch from SAP to Odoo?

Standard support for SAP ECC will end as early as December 2027. As a result, your SAP system will soon no longer comply with legal requirements and financial obligations. Free bug fixes and security patches will no longer be available. It is estimated that continued support for SAP ECC will become 2 to 4% more expensive.

We understand that this could have a significant impact on your business. We are here to guide you towards a new software solution. Thanks to our experience in migrating from SAP to Odoo, we will ensure that your business continues to run smoothly and that you are ready for the future.

What about (SAP) customisation?

In SAP

SAP customisations (Z programmes) must be analysed individually and migrated to SAP S/4HANA. This makes an upgrade a very costly and risky undertaking. Legacy code is written in ABAP, which means it can only be handled by SAP specialists. SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA are structured differently, meaning that many table and code structures have disappeared. All these discrepancies must be addressed through testing and remedial new code. Consequently, an upgrade process is highly risky.

In Odoo

Customisation in Odoo is written in Python, a modern and open-source programming language. As Odoo is also open-source, the code structure is very accessible. Furthermore, it is very well supported by AI tools, which makes development by experienced Odoo developers much faster.

Price

With a single licence per user for all apps, Odoo stands out clearly from SAP.

More versatile

Odoo includes more than 70 applications, all covered by a single licence fee.

Smooth migrations

Upgrading to major versions of Odoo is a lot more straightforward than in SAP.

Flexibility

Odoo is user-friendly, very comprehensive and easily customisable to suit your own needs.

Bespoke development

Customisation in SAP is very expensive. Odoo customisation is quicker to develop and easier to upgrade.

Open standards

Data integration, import and export are key features in Odoo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Problem

IIs Odoo suitable for large companies?

Solution

Yes, the hyper-scalable infrastructure enables thousands of users across different countries to work seamlessly.

Is there a successor to SAP ECC?

S/4HANA seems like a logical successor, but it is very expensive. An upgrade process can sometimes take between 18 months and three years.

What are the main benefits of switching from SAP to Odoo?

  • Avoid the high cost of migrating to another SAP solution
  • Odoo is much more user-friendly
  • A much lower TCO, right from the implementation phase
  • A wide network of reliable partners
  • And much more!

Can Odoo handle a large number of users?

Yes, in Odoo you can have thousands of users carrying out their work.

What does the migration process look like?

We’ll start by analysing your processes, followed by the installation and training for the new software. Your data can be imported into your new Odoo environment.

Is switching expensive?

Odoo is hugely popular and competitively priced. For most businesses, Odoo can do what SAP can do – and often even more. This means that costly customisation can often be avoided.

How long does a migration like that take?

That depends on your industry. Compared to SAP projects, we often complete our projects 50% faster.

Does Odoo also have AI integration?

Yes, in various ways. AI is integrated into the Odoo interface. You can add Agentic automations via the Odoo automation tool. Claude code is natively integrated into the development stack.

Kan ik SAP ECC blijven gebruiken?

Yes, but with a catch. From 2028, everything will become a lot more expensive, and by 2030, the support will cease entirely.

Choosing a migration strategy

There are typically three strategies:

  • One-to-one migration: we migrate your processes and tools to Odoo and switch over during a migration period.
  • Gliding migration: we’ll start with the first MVP in Odoo, which will be implemented alongside your SAP ERP. Processes will then be migrated step by step via separate sub-projects.
  • Odoo alongside SAP: An analysis will determine which processes will remain in SAP and which will be implemented in Odoo. You will have two solutions in production at all times.

The process of migrating from SAP to Odoo will depend on your specific circumstances. In any case, now is the time to prepare your migration project thoroughly.
